ℹ The Katsura tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) is a truly remarkable species with numerous positive attributes. Its heart-shaped leaves transition from reddish-purple in spring to blue-green in summer, culminating in a stunning display of yellow, orange, and pink hues in fall, offering year-round visual interest. What sets it apart further is its delightful fragrance resembling cotton candy emitted from the leaves in autumn. Known for its fast growth rate, the Katsura tree is ideal for landscaping projects, adapting well to various soil types and tolerating both full sun and partial shade with minimal maintenance once established. It thrives in urban environments, resisting pollution and pests while developing attractive grayish-brown exfoliating bark on older specimens. Additionally, its flowers attract pollinators, and its fruits provide food for wildlife, underscoring its ecological value. Culturally significant in Japan, where it's often planted near temples and shrines, the Katsura tree's aesthetic appeal, adaptability, and sensory allure make it a prized choice for gardens and urban landscapes alike.
